In January instead of making New Year’s resolutions, I followed my favorite podcaster, Gretchen Rubin of Happier, and set goals of 26 in ’26. Today I am checking in if I’m likely to accomplish those goals.

Self Goal: 26 minutes of FUN (my word for 2026) or rest each day–So far I am exceeding 26 minutes each day.

Mental Health Goal: To read 26 books from the combined memoir, biography, autobiography category in 2026–Alas! The year is almost half over, and I have read only four. However, a good friend recently bought me six beguiling titles from a book sale. Thanks, April!

Writing Goal:To write 26 minutes a day, every other day– I think I will be realistic and delete this goal. Other than grocery lists and a few lesson plans, I am not writing.

Exercise/Fitness: Exercise 26 minutes a day every other day–I have failed miserably at this, and my poor old body feels the lack of it. I have decided to drop back to last year’s goal, and spend 26 minutes a day outside. Now that the plants are blooming, I am inspired to work in the yard.

I may set some goals for the summer, but that is a post for another day, friends.

It’s wonderful to reappraise your goals mid-year. You are doing well! Spending time outdoors in the spring is a good goal. I always have to remind myself that it’s okay not to achieve a goal—it’s something we can try to achieve.

I would love to write every day, but my muse is sometimes off wandering around with other, more committed writers. No one wants to write without her muse.
